Father's Day at York Hall
John Wayne Hibbert v Damien Jeffries

The fighters on pro debut all had good days. Ryan Toms v Kevin Lilley was a mini-epic with the fight stopped in the last few seconds of the final round. Scott Douglas concentrated first on the body and then on the head in winning a convincing points victory over Jamie Norkett.

The six-round contest between Lee Cook and Mark McCullough started with a first-round knockdown of the Southern Area champion who then had to battle his way back to a victory on points in a cracking fight. This was then topped as fight of the day by the eight-round war between Ashley Theophane and Mark Douglas. Mark's aggressive style literally had Ashley on the ropes at times and Ashley had to use all his skills and stamina to win through in another close decision. Mark was disappointed by the result but he shouldn't be disheartened.

These two close fights - both decisions could easily have gone the other way - were accompanied by two more clear cut results. John Wayne Hibbert on his licensed debut floored Damien Jeffries with a punch to the body in the first round, much to the joy of his many supporters. Leon Williams, also with a strong fan presence, had a convincing points win over Mark Nilsen, and goes on to his next fight on Keith Mayo's promotion in Swindon on 24th July.
